🗺️ Route Map
The moment the ferry horn echoed across the bay, I knew this was going to be a day to remember.
Starting from RIDE TOURISM base in Shonan, we head south to Kurihama Port — the gateway to a completely different side of Japan. The Tokyo Bay Ferry crosses to Kanaya Port in Chiba in just 40 minutes. Standing on the open deck with the salty breeze hitting your face and Mount Fuji looming on the horizon — it’s already worth the trip before you even start riding.
📍 Highlights
⛴️ Tokyo Bay Ferry
Board at Kurihama Port and cruise across Tokyo Bay to Kanaya in just 40 minutes. Stand on the open deck and feel the sea breeze — Mt. Fuji may even greet you on clear days! Bikes are handled by staff, so just sit back and enjoy the ride on the water.
🏔️ Nokogiriyama (Mt. Nokogiri)
Just minutes from Kanaya Port, Nokogiriyama greets you with dramatic stone cliffs carved by centuries of quarrying. Take the ropeway up for a bird’s-eye view of Tokyo Bay, or challenge the famous “Hell’s Peephole” — a terrifying cliff-edge lookout that’ll make your heart race as much as the ride itself.
🌸 Boso Flower Line
Roll south along the coast toward Tateyama. The Boso Flower Line — a 46km coastal route selected as one of Japan’s Top 100 Roads — lines both sides with wildflowers, especially golden fields of rapeseed in spring. On a clear day, you can spot the Izu Islands floating in the Pacific.
🏛️ Cape Nojima Lighthouse
At the southern tip of the Boso Peninsula stands the Nojima Lighthouse, one of Japan’s oldest Western-style lighthouses, built in 1866. The rocks below are dramatic, the wind is wild, and the views stretch endlessly across the Pacific. A perfect spot to feel small in the best possible way.
🗼 Futtsu Cape & Meiji Centennial Tower
A striking pyramid-shaped observation tower modeled after a five-leaf pine. From the top, enjoy a 360° panorama of Tokyo Bay, Mt. Fuji, and even Yokohama on clear days. The cape juts into the bay like a crane’s beak — a truly unique landscape and a great photo spot.
🌉 Umi-Hotaru PA (Sea Firefly)
Heading back via the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line, don’t miss a stop at Umi-Hotaru — a rest area built on an artificial island in the middle of Tokyo Bay. The 360° panoramic views are breathtaking, especially at sunset. Grab a coffee, a local sweet, and take it all in before the final stretch home.
